In Text-Based Interactive Learning classes, students use English actively and interactively to learn about themes of interest to them and to share their knowledge and understanding with other students.
テキストベース・インタラクティブ・ラーニングの授業では、受講生それぞれが選択した関心のあるテーマについて調べ、その成果をクラスで共有することを通して英語を対話的に活用し、主体的な学びを実践します。

授業の概要
Course theme: Issues in the Global Era / グローバル時代の諸問題
In this class, you will read about Global Era issues related to globalization, global politics, and international relations. Working in small groups, you will read and discuss articles and essays of your choice on topics such as international security, global trade and investment, global governance, international migration, human rights, and ecological sustainability. You will also have opportunities for doing advanced research on issues of your interest related to the topics your read about.
本授業では、グローバリゼーション、グローバル政治、国際関係に関連するグローバル時代の諸問題について読みます。少人数のグループに分かれ、国際安全保障、世界貿易と投資、グローバル・ガバナンス、国際移民、人権、環境問題などのトピックについて、各自が選んだ記事やエッセイを読み、ディスカッションを行います。また、読んだトピックに関連する自分の関心のある問題についてリサーチプロジェクトを完成します。
In the spring semester, you will be able to choose readings on the following global era issues:
(1) International development
(2) Climate change
(3) Nuclear proliferation
(4) International migration
(5) Global health
(6) Cyberspace and cybersecurity
In the fall semester, you can choose to read about other global era issues, such as:
(1) Globalization
(2) Global trade and investment
(3) Monetary policy and currencies
(4) Global governance
(5) International conflict
(6) Terrorism
Assignments and homework will involve making presentations and writing short essays on issues raised in the readings.
科目目的
The main objectives of this course are to help you:
(1) engage interactively with others around texts of different kinds (for example, written, audio-visual, multimedia) so that you can develop the ability to use English
(2) build your knowledge on topics and issues of interest to you
(3) share that knowledge interactively with other people
(4) develop your critical understanding of the world.
この授業の目的は、以下の通りです。
(1)受講生が、様々なテクスト(例:書物、音響、映像、メディア)に触れることを通して英語を使う能力を育てること
(2)興味関心に基づくトピックや社会問題についての知識を養うこと
(3)他の受講生と学んだ知識を積極的にシェアできるようになること
(4)世界で起きていることについて批判的に理解できるようになること。

(1) Through this course you will learn about different topics and issues of interest to you to do with the main theme of this course.
(2) You will improve your reading (and listening) skills and extend your understanding of the topics and issues in this course.
(3) You will develop your ability to use information on topics and issues that interest you.
(4) You will develop your ability to use English comfortably and fluently to explain, discuss and critically analyse information with other people.

SPRING SEMESTER.
Week 1. Course introduction: Discuss course themes, goals and methods. Start reading first article on global era issues and politics.
Week 2. Continue reading first article, working in small groups.
Week 3. Finish first article, and complete review questions.
Week 4. Start individual research based on first reading.
Week 5. Continue individual research, sharing research notes with other students.
Week 6. Final stages of research, start preparing presentations.
Week 7. Students make a 10~15 minute presentation based on their research to a small group of other students (3-4 other students).
Week 8. Start reading second main article on global issues of your choice.
Week 9. Continue reading articles in groups.
Week 10. Complete reading second article. Work on review questions.
Week 11. Start second cycle of individual research on global era issue of your choice.
Week 12. Continue individual research, sharing research notes with other students.
Week 13. Finalize research and start preparing presentations for the following week.
Week 14. Students make their second 10~15 minute presentation based on their research to a small group of other students (3-4 other students).
FALL SEMESTER.

Week 6. Final stages of research, start preparing presentations.

Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading (and/or listening), finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or presentations, discussions, and other activities in class.
受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週2時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。
授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数/週
・毎週1回の授業が半期(前期または後期)または通年で完結するもの。1週間あたり1時間の学修を基本とします。
成績評価の方法・基準

平常点 | 100 | Students will be graded mainly based on continuous assessment, in relation to (i) weekly preparation for class, (ii) weekly participation in class, (iii) products made during the semester such as presentations and written work, portfolios of work, reflections and self-assessments, and (iv) other ways of evaluating the quality and development of students’ use of English week by week.
