授業の概要

This is an intermediate to advanced multi-skill course focusing particularly on reading and listening with the additional goal of improving performance on the TOEIC test. Students will read authentic texts, including those related to science, technology, and the environment, and use them as a base for information sharing and discussions. They will learn how to assimilate what they have read and heard into oral reports that display coherence and critical thinking. They will also gain practice in completing TOEIC exercises, with a particular focus on the grammar and reading sections of the test. This will include building up their advanced vocabulary and improving their knowledge of complex grammatical structures.
本科目は学科混合の選抜クラスで、英語マルチな技能、特にリーディング・リスニング能力の育成を目指す。また、TOEICテストでの高得点取得も目指す。この授業では、科学、技術、環境に関するものも含んだオーセンティックな文章を読み、読み取った内容を学生同士の情報交換や議論のために用いる。そして、読んだ文章と聞きたリスニングを、一貫性、参考文献、批判的思考を備えたオーラルレポートとしてまとめるという課題に取り組む。また、TOEIC課題のうち特に文法課題やリーディングセクションの課題に取り組む。加えて、より高度な語彙の知識や複雑な文法構造に関する知識を補強する。

科目目的

This course will help students to improve their academic reading and writing skills. It will also give them opportunities to carry out TOEIC exercises.
本科目では、アカデミックなリーディング・ライティング能力を育成することを目的とする。また、TOEIC受験に向けた演習も行い、学生をサポートする。

到達目標

Students should be able to:
1. Use authentic texts including those related to science, technology and the environment as a basis for discussions.
2. Write with coherence, references and critical thinking.
3. Improve their performance on the TOEIC test.
本科目を通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
1．科学、技術、環境に関するものも含んだオーセンティックな文章を議論のために用いることができる。
2．一貫性、参考文献、批判的思考を備えた文章を書くことができる。
3．TOEICテストで高得点取得を目指すことができる。

指定したテキストやレジュメを事前に読み込むこと／授業終了後の課題提出

テキストの予習・復習：予習では授業で扱う問題を予め解き、質問をまとめておくこと。復習として授業で扱った問題を再度解き、間違ったところを中心に確認しておくこと。
レポート課題：グループワークなど授業内課題の準備や授業後の振り返り・まとめとして指定の項目に従ってレポートを作成し、期日までに提出すること。

授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数／週

・毎週１回の授業が半期（前期または後期）または通年で完結するもの。１週間あたり１時間の学修を基本とします。
