授業の概要

Choosing to write a graduation thesis (卒業論文) gives you the opportunity to carry out your own research project under close supervision from your thesis advisor (指導教員). The issues and methods studied during the third year seminar will be useful in selecting your thesis topic; however, you are free to explore topics beyond those covered in that seminar. Generally, most topics in experimental language sciences will be allowed, but you must consult with the professor for guidance in selecting your topic. Students who choose the 卒論 option do not attend the weekly seminar class with other students. Instead, they meet individually with the professor on a regular basis in order to make progress on their research.

Furthermore, students interested in pursuing graduate studies should note that many graduate school entrance requirements require the completion of a graduation thesis. Students aspiring to this path should approach their thesis work with this expectation in mind.　

科目目的

The graduation thesis teaches students how to initiate, organize, manage, and complete a large scale project. Once the thesis topic has been selected, students read a wide range of related published research in order to narrow down the scope of their study to a feasible research plan, with a clearly identified set of research questions and hypotheses. With support from the professor, students create experimental test materials, gather data, analyze data, and draw conclusions based on the their research findings. While writing the text of their thesis, they will learn to make effective logical arguments based on their analysis of their data. Students are encouraged to present their projects at a student workshop hosted by a national academic society, in addition to the presentations they will make to students in related seminars.

The graduation thesis represents a major achievement in your university career. It also serves as an initial step into the world of scholarship through your own initiative, conducting genuine research and writing your own substantive research paper.

① 提出された卒業論文は指導教員を中心に審査を行い、その内容について口述試験を実施します。
② 口述試験の日時は、原則としてC plus・manaba等でお知らせします。各自で必ず確認して下さい。全員指定された日時に口述試験を受けなければなりません。

Several software tools will be used for creating online experiments for data collection. In addition, students will learn how to use spreadsheets for data management, a statistics package for data analysis, and word processing applications for manuscript preparation.

There is no assigned textbook. Some materials will be provided by the instructor, but most materials must be gathered by each student as part of the process of research. Each student will develop an individual research project so the contents will be different from everyone. There will be some training in methods of data collection and data analysis which will require practice in the form of homework exercises.

その他特記事項

卒業論文の提出は、12月中旬で指定日時に遅れることは絶対に許されません。
ただし、病気その他の理由で締切時刻までに本人が提出できない時は、あらかじめその旨を文学部事務室に連絡の上、代理人に提出を依頼することができます。
提出場所は文学部事務室です。具体的な日時については時間割等で発表します。
※専攻別の卒業論文作成上の注意が各共同研究室に置いてありますので、卒業論文を作成する前に必ず一読するようにして下さい。
