授業の概要
This class will cover issues in contemporary American culture. We will study about “cultural appropriation,” which is the use of elements of a marginalized or minority culture by members of a dominant culture without understanding, or respect for their original meaning or context.
We will also study controversies about sports team mascots that reflect ethnic stereotypes or other objectionable images.
The goal of the class is to examine identity issues across multiple contexts, including personal, local, group, and national levels. The class format will be lecture and discussion, with an emphasis on small group discussion. Class requirements include short writing assignments, an oral presentation, and a final report.
The class will be conducted in English.

Students will learn to critically analyze aspects of contemporary American culture through the study of written texts. They will practice oral presentation and discussion skills.
