授業の概要
To properly understand current events, it is necessary to understand the wider context and the long-term forces at play around these events, whether these forces are political, social, economical, environmental, etc.
Such long-term perspectives reveal how historical patterns and structures continue to influence present issues. This is the so-called longue durée history.
Many of the current issues studied at the Faculty of Policy Studies concern the African continent and its various challenges. However, these events are rarely viewed in the context of longue durée history and the deep-rooted forces that have shaped African societies.
This course covers the long and very long-term trends that have shaped human societies on the African continent in order to offer a better understanding of the current situation.
