授業の概要
This course introduces the field of international development. International Development is a multi-disciplinary field which draws contribution from other subject areas such as economics, geography, history, politics, and anthropology. This course examines the various development theories, roles played by different development actors, and relevant issues of international development.
This course is composed of three parts: theories and approaches; international development actors, and current international development concerns. The first part presents development theories and concepts as well as various definition and measurement of development. The second part discusses the role of different international development actors such as state, international institutions, and private businesses. The third part analyzes key international development issues such as free trade, fair trade, climate change, rural development, urban development, and information technology.
This course includes 14 lecture sessions. This course uses a textbook as the main reference material. The students are evaluated based on final exam, mid-term exam, attendance and class participation.

This course aims to equip students with knowledge about various development theories and concepts. This course also aims to develop awareness and critical thinking about some key international issues.
This course is specifically designed to help students acquire an understanding of diverse political, economic, social conditions around the world.

The achievement goals of the course are:
1. To be able to understand a wide range of development issue-areas.
2. To be able to draw connections between theory, actor, issues, and practice in International Development.
3. To be able to develop critical thinking and formulate informed opinion.
