授業の概要
This course examines the development of regions and places across the world in the context of globalization. Regional Development analyzes how growth and disparity are geographically distributed and aims to identify the factors that the determines the spatial pattern of growth and development. With the advent of globalization and advancement in technology, the traditional boundaries of regions have changed significantly, and consequently new concepts and frameworks have arisen in the field of regional development.
This course has two main components: theories and concepts and policy applications. The first component, theories and concepts, aims to provide students understanding about the definition of regions, process on how regions are being formed, and regional development theories. The second component, policy applications, equip students with the deeper understanding on regional development policies and practices through in-depth study of various interconnected economic, social and political issues, as well as examination of selected regional development case studies.
