授業の概要
This course will investigate issues related to migration and cross-cultural identity in different generations. It considers what it means to be “American” in a multicultural society, and how identity transforms when people move to other countries.
We will read two graphic novels in this course. "We Are Not Strangers" by Josh Tuininga is based on a true story of a community’s struggle with race, responsibility, and what it means to be an American during the second World War. "Himawari House" by Harmony Becker tells the story of three friends from different countries who explore their changing identities while living in contemporary Japan.
科目目的
The purpose of this course is to learn about minority communities in the United States and explore issues surrounding their presence and participation in multicultural America and Japan. Students will improve both their ability to make presentations in English and their critical thinking skills.
到達目標
Students will improve their English ability, critical thinking and oral discussion / presentation skills. They will also learn how to critically analyze literary texts.
