授業の概要

This course introduces second-year English majors to academic reading skills through the lens of five significant sociological themes. Students will engage with authentic texts, develop critical reading strategies, and explore intercultural perspectives. The course emphasizes vocabulary building, making inferences, and synthesizing ideas, preparing students for advanced academic work and fostering intercultural competence.

I have over 15 years of teaching experience in ESL at the university level in Japan and the United States. I have taught at Japanese junior colleges and universities and led study abroad training programs. My formal graduate education in teaching ESL includes training in core language areas.

I have taught ESL and other subjects to both Japanese and non-Japanese speakers at the tertiary level in post-secondary institutions. I have found that students and teachers tend to learn more as we study real-world topics through cross-cultural exchanges and discussions.

Students in my classes are exposed to various pedagogical approaches to learning, both traditional and technology-based, to achieve the expected learning outcome.
