授業の概要

この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
The topic of this course is Japanese manga in the age of globalization. Using a collaborative approach, this course will encourage critical thinking and group discussion. For homework, students will also read a short academic text in English and answer comprehension questions throughout the semester. All homework questions are designed to prepare students for active participation in class discussions. The majority of class time will be devoted to student interaction and the completion of creative group projects. Students will complete self-directed research and collaborative materials development throughout the semester.

This class requires weekly reading of the textbook and extra research. Students will set up systems for learning vocabulary and investigating English grammar independently and will keep records of their progress throughout the semester. Attention to detail, ability to keep records carefully, and commitment to independent learning are basic expectations for enrollment in this course.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
中間試験: There will be two group projects during the semester. They will be prepared entirely during the class meetings (not as homework). Students will contribute to the group work and write a reflection on the project.
期末試験: Students will be instructed in how to engage in independent research. Students will keep detailed records of their activities and results throughout the semester.
レポート: Homework assignments from the textbook will be posted on Manaba. In principle, late submissions will not be accepted except in the case of an absence which the student demonstrates has been excused by the department.
平常点: Because this class requires a significant amount of group discussion, students are expected to participate in the class activities in an active manner, demonstrating a positive attitude.

As this is (basically) a paperless classroom, assignments will be collected, evaluated, and returned using online tools.

Each class will consist of some combination of the following: 1) discussions about the homework materials 2) short lectures [in English, with PowerPoint] about the course content 3) discussions about creativity and technology 4) group work related to the goals of the course 5) presentations of original, creative, student-produced social media content*.
*Student-produced social media content is strictly for in-class use and will NOT be posted on the Internet or in any public forum.
