授業の概要
Japan's ranking on the Global Gender Gap Report has been consistently low, currently standing at 125 out of 146 countries in the 2023 Global Gender Gap Index. In this course, we will delve into the ways socio-cultural, economic, and political changes influence the gender gap in Japanese society. The primary focus will be on the status of women, and we will explore contemporary gender-related social issues, including marriage, family dynamics, workplace challenges, reproductive health, women's rights, and intimate partner violence.
The class will primarily adopt an interactive and participatory style. Throughout the course, you will enhance your discussion skills by exchanging views with both your classmates and me. Engaging in discussions will enable you to explore diverse perspectives and think critically about gender issues in Japanese society.
In this course, students will learn by reading and reflecting on assigned materials, actively participating in class discussions, posing questions, and gaining a deeper understanding of the gender issues in Japan through fieldwork.
科目目的
• Critically analyze gender issues in Japan
• Construct arguments, using data / evidence appropriately
• Explore and understand the gender issues in Japan from different perspectives.
到達目標
By the end of the course, students will have acquired a thorough comprehension of gender issues, engaged in fieldwork related to a gender issue in Japan, and developed their own perspectives on gender inequality in the country.
