授業の概要
SEMESTER 1
In Semester 1 students will learn how to think critically and express themselves clearly in English. Each unit of the textbook will introduce a topic with a discussion activity, which will be followed up by studying key vocabulary. A listening activity on the topic will focus on specific listening skills. Follow-up discussions will then take place, and finally you will compete a speaking task. Knowledge of key vocabulary and linguistic skills will be evaluated in unit tests, and discussion skills will be evaluated in a mid-term discussion test. Finally, students will create a video commercial for a new product. Online resources will be available on Manaba, and on a special Moodle course for the textbook.
SEMESTER 2
In Semester 2 students will continue to learn how to think critically and express themselves clearly in English. Each unit of the textbook will introduce a topic with a discussion activity, which will be followed up by studying key vocabulary. A listening activity on the topic will focus on specific listening skills. Follow-up discussions will then take place, and finally you will compete a speaking task. Knowledge of key vocabulary and linguistic skills will be evaluated in unit tests, and discussion skills will be evaluated in a mid-term discussion test. Finally, a pair research and presentation task will require students to conduct surveys, analyze results, and deliver poster presentations reporting on their findings. Online resources will be available on Manaba, and on a special Moodle course for the textbook.

SEMESTER 1
The purpose of this course is to promote critical thinking, and help students improve their fluency, conversational skills, discussion skills, and presentation skills. A focus on discussion language and meta-skills will give students the confidence to engage in extended discussions on a variety of contemporary topics, and about their fields of interests. They will also gain the expertise and skills required to research, create and edit a 5-minute video (Video Project), and to understand the main points of videos, presentations and lectures.
SEMESTER 2

a. understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
b. produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
c. describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
d. effectively conduct discussions
e. deliver a poster-presentation
f. prepare an explanatory video using appropriate English.
