授業の概要
What is “Oceania?” In this course we will study the region of Ocean on a variety of levels: geographical (islands, continents, oceans, nations), environmental (animal life on land and sea, ecosystems), and cultural (human society, the arts, politics). We will examine all of Oceania, including a variety of places, cultures, and peoples. As well as learning hard data (demographics, statistics, etc), we will explore representations in media, literature, art, and cinema.
科目目的
By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the Oceania region on several key levels: geographical, environmental, and cultural. They will have been introduced to a variety of nations and cultures within Oceania, and will understand the connections between those places and peoples. They will also have experienced many different aspects of Oceania’s culture, including media, the arts, social problems, and politics.
This will deepen their understanding of both regional history and the global community.

- nations and ethnic groups within Oceania
- regional society and politics
- representations of Oceania in media and art (including literature and cinema)
