授業の概要

This is a STANDARD LEVEL elective for students with a TOEIC score of less than 600. In this course, students will develop their communication skills in English. Students will build their English conversation and listening skills by exploring topics that matter to their daily lives and future goals. They will listen to real-world English from news, conversations, and other media, and practice understanding spoken English in everyday situations. The course will help them learn useful vocabulary and expressions they can use when talking with others. Students will also practice sharing their ideas clearly and naturally in conversation. By the end of the course, they will feel more confident speaking and listening in English in both personal and professional settings.
本科目はTOEIC600点未満の学生を対象とする「スタンダード・コース」に位置づけられる。本科目では、学生が英語でのコミュニケーション能力を育成することを目的とする。日常生活や将来の目標に関わるトピックを扱いながら、会話力やリスニング力を養成する。ニュースや会話など現実の英語を聞き取り、日常場面での英語理解を練習する。さらに、会話で役立つ語彙や表現を学び、自然かつ明確に自分の考えを伝える練習を行う。授業修了時には、私的場面・職業的場面の双方で英語のスピーキングやリスニングに自信を持てるようになることを目指す。

科目目的

In this course, students will develop their communication skills in English. They will gain speaking and listening skills they can use in their personal and professional lives.
本科目では、学生が英語でのコミュニケーション能力を育成することを目的とし、私生活や職業生活に活かせるスピーキング力とリスニング力を身につける。

到達目標

Students should be able to:
1. Understand a variety of English media including news reports and conversations.
2. Employ a variety of useful vocabulary and expressions for everyday situations.
3. Share information and ideas clearly.
英語コミュニケーション1を通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
1．ニュースや会話など多様な英語メディアを理解することができる。
2．日常的な場面で役立つ多様な語彙や表現を用いることができる。
3．情報や考えを明確に伝えることができる。

授業計画と内容

The content of the classes may alter considerably depending on whether we are working online or in face-to-face classes and then the necessary rules and guidelines for permissible activities in face-to-face environments.
Week １: Course outline and introduction to the students and teacher.
Week ２: Getting to know you. Conversation activities to enable students to become more familiar with one another.
Week ３: Important events 1 - Identifying and discussing important events of the 20th century.
Week ４: Important events 2 - Discussing important events of the 21st century and beyond.
Week ５: The Matrix - The pill scene. Listening and discussion activity based around a movie scene.
Week ６: You are the teacher 1 - Preparing English activities based around a video of the students' choice.
Week ７: You are the teacher 2 - Watchind and responding to the activities prepared by other students.
Week ８: Agree / disagree - Discussion activity based around controversial topics chosen by the teacher.
Week ９: Agree / disagree 2 - Discussion activity based around controversial topics chosen by the students.
Week 10: You liars - Descriptive conversation activity based around events in students' lives.
Week 11: Presentations 1 - Choosing a topic, researching and outlining.
Week 12: Presentations 2 - Finalising presentations and related materials.
Week 13: Presentations 3 - Performing presentations with discussion questions.
Week 14: Course review and feedback.

Students will be expected to develop their skills to the best of their level, outside of class if necessary, and show the quality of their work through their class activities.
